BEIJING--NICE-SINGAPORE June-July 2019

LAST DAYS IN MOSCOW (June 17-21)

After the arrival of our travelling companions from Hong Kong and being on their first visit to Russia we revisited The Kremlin, Red Square and had a tour of St Basil's Cathedral which was also a first for us. Touring St Basil's resolved a query I have had for some time with regards to how certain photos I had seen of Red Square were taken. I had suspected that the location for taking these photos must have been by special access but I was wrong. The tour of St Basil's gave me the opportunity to take my own very same photos as the location was from inside the Cathedral.
We also took in a performance of the ballet Don Quixote at the Bolshoi, just for the tick in the box, and returned to Red Square for the opportunity for some photos of the spectacular lights.
We also revisited Gorky Park and the All Russia Exhibition Centre of which our first visit was covered in my previous blog.
We did some touring of the more noteable metro stations along with general sightseeing.
Departed Moscow Friday June 21 at 0918 for St Petersburg on the relatively new High Speed 'Sapsan' (Peregrine Falcon) train. The 700+ km trip took 4 hrs 2 mins in what was a quick and very smooth ride.
